She has done research work and acted as an expert in the area of gender equality in employment in several organisations in Finland and abroad - i.e. in the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Nepal, and in the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Switzerland, as well as in the Department of Social Policy and Social Work and the Work Research Centre of the University of Tampere, the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health, and in the Equality Ombudsman's Office in Finland. She has also worked as an expert witness to the Canadian Government.
She has written several publications on gender equality in employment and equal pay, and on women's human rights.
Her book The ILO Principle of Equal Pay and Its Implementation considers the equal pay policies of the ILO and of nine countries (Australia, Canada, Finland, Ghana, India, New Zealand, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, and Zambia), and the research period is from 1848 to 2000. (See Book Orders)
